Warning Signs You're Dealing With a Narcissist (Without Knowing It)

Narcissism is a personality trait that often goes unnoticed until a clinical diagnosis is made.

Narcissists are habitual, pathological liars who find satisfaction in disrupting peace.

At first, they don’t reveal how manipulative they really are. They mirror your energy and appear to be the sweetest person you’ve ever met. But once you let your guard down, the mask falls off. They become abusive, rude, and arrogant  leaving you confused: "Is this the same person who was so kind to me? What changed?

Nothing changed. They simply couldn’t keep up the act. Being kind and thoughtful isn’t who they are.

The “love bombing” stage is just a facade "a way to lure you into their cycle of toxicity and drama". You end up begging them to stop hurting you, because they lack empathy. Instead of stopping, they intensify the bullying, trigger you, and gaslight you by playing the victim.

When you challenge their hypocrisy and wickedness, "when no one is watching, they will change the narrative to gain support from people who unknowingly enable them without knowing how abusive they are". Funnily enough I'm surrounded by narcissists left, right and center.

Cautionary notice: Not everyone who is arrogant or chaotic is a narcissist.

To call someone a narcissist, they should consistently show several of these traits:

SOME NARCISSISTIC BEHAVIOURS.

- Lack of empathy.

- Never owning their mistakes they shift blame onto you.

- Criticizing others, but seeing any criticism of themselves as a personal attack.

- Lying without provocation, changing the narrative, and painting you as the bad person.

- Being overly controlling making decisions for you and answering questions on your behalf.

- Isolating you from friends and family.

- Giving backhanded compliments (e.g., “You smell nice today”) to undermine your self-esteem.

- Creating unnecessary arguments just to get a reaction and attention.

- Every discussion turns into a heated argument, even when others see no problem.

- Making you feel like you’re walking on eggshells.

- Wanting to be your “everything” while treating you like a doormat.

- Projecting their own insecurities onto you.

- Believing respect doesn’t need to be mutual.

- Being insensitive to almost everything.

- Resenting your independence and progress.

- Calling toxicity "That's just who I am"  "I can't change who I am".

- Seeking validation from others but never valuing your opinion.

- Wanting you to be dependent on them so that they can weaponize finance as a tool to frustrate                 and punish you.

- Only being nice when you try to leave, then going back to being abusive.

- They promise you every good thing and deliver a nightmare you won't recover from.

- Inability to self-reflect or admit they’re not always the victim

- Seeing a million faults in you, but never seeing what they did to make  you change towards them.

- Refusing to acknowledge your good intentions because they’ve already decided to misunderstand you.

- Bragging about how badly they treat their partner to massage their ego.

- Discouraging anyone who’s open-minded, and  calling them “weak”

- Extreme selfishness  the only person they truly love is themselves

- Gaslighting & erasing evidence. They’ll deny things, twist facts, and make you doubt your memory.

Once you recognize these patterns and set boundaries, their reaction reveals everything.

A note on self-awareness. never ignore visible red flags, and when it feels to good to be real, look inwardly you may be going through love bombing stage.

Not all toxic people stay the same if they are willing to seek therapy, but it is better not to be yoked with an extremely toxic person because in the long run it will damage your mental well-being.

HOW THERAPY CAN HELP A NARCISSIST.

→ To learn accountability

→ To respect boundaries and other people’s choices.

→ To accept “no” without tantrums.

→To understand that controlling an adult is coercive and abusive.

LASTLY.

Protect your peace. Reevaluate your relationships, practice self-awareness, and build emotional intelligence. You deserve relationships where respect goes both ways.
